Our CSA is Sold Out for Summer 2017
Please click here to join our 2017 waiting list! Waiting list members will be contacted later this summer about our Fall CSA if spaces are available. We will also contact you late winter 2018 to let you know about our Summer 2018 CSA program!
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture
When you become a CSA member, you sign up and pre-pay for 16 weeks of produce (June 6-September 24, 2017) from our four local farms. Each week, we pack up a share of freshly harvested produce and distribute it amongst our members. As a member, you can get your share at a pick-up station on Tuesdays in Courtenay or Comox. You can also choose to pick up your share weekly at beautiful Amara Farm or in Campbell River on Wednesdays. We are also allowing pick ups this year in Cumberland on Sunday afternoons.
A CSA is a local, farm-based distribution system for organic produce – it’s all about increasing community access to high-quality, locally grown produce. And it’s about strengthening the connection between eaters and farmers.
CSA members pledge to support local farms, with growers and consumers sharing the risks and benefits of food production. Shares are purchased in the winter and early spring. Once harvesting begins, from June 6 to September 24th, members receive weekly shares of fresh, in-season produce from the farms.
Please read carefully through this page before you decide to join us so you are fully informed about our CSA program. Registration is open for 2017 Summer Shares until March 31, but we encourage you to sign up as soon as you can, as shares sell fast!

What does it mean to be a CSA member?
Every week, we harvest a diverse variety of crops and create flavourful & nutritious shares for our members. As a CSA member, you get the pick of the crop for 16 weeks of the summer season. You also invest in local agriculture by shouldering some of the risk with us.
The CSA program is the backbone of our farms. Farming is hard work, and financially risky as a business. With our CSA members’ financial support early in the season, we get to work purchasing seeds, inputs and infrastructure we need to have the best season possible. Our members’ loyalty and encouragement helps us get started each spring.
Please read our CSA policy thoroughly and decide whether it is the right fit for you to join. If you have any questions, we’d love to chat with you. Drop us a line at: email@example.com
New for 2017!
We are passionate about our veggies, but we understand that sometimes you just don’t want another clove of garlic, or you really have an aversion to turnips (even after trying all the turnip recipes we have) so we are offering a swap box. This gives you an opportunity to swap out an item you don’t need that week for another. This allows people who need extra garlic to swap their radishes and those who are planning a big kale and radish salad to trade in their garlic!
We are running a referral program for 2017! For each new person you refer who signs up for our CSA program you will receive a 10 dollar market credit which can be used at the Merville Organics stand at the CV & Cumberland Farmer’s Markets! A new member is anyone who was not a member of our 2016 CSA program. Market credits will be issued after March 31st. To receive your credits the person who you refer MUST provide us with your contact information. You do not have to be a CSA member to take advantage of our referral program, so if you love what we do but can’t commit for this year you’ll get a little bonus from us for promoting our program.
Your recommendation is the highest compliment we could receive as we strive to ensure you get the freshest, highest quality organic produce we can provide.
If you’re excited to become one of our CSA partners, please read our CSA Policy below so you know the ins and outs of our program.
Merville Organics 2017 CSA Policy
2017 CSA season length & dates:
This year, we are offering a CSA season of 16 weeks from Tuesday, June 6 until Friday, September 26, 2017. We deliver to pick-up stations in Courtenay, and Comox on Tuesdays. We also host CSA pick-ups at Amara Farm and Campbell River on Wednesdays. In addition we are offering a pick-up at the Cumberland Farmers Market on Sunday afternoons.
The value of shares will average out at $25 worth of produce/week. Because CSA members share in the risks and benefits of farming, value lost in one week’s share will be made up in future weeks if possible. Shares delivered to our pick-up locations in Courtenay, Comox, Cumberland and Campbell River include a fuel surcharge of $25 for the season to help us get your vegetables to a convenient location.
Shares picked up at Amara Farm cost: $425
Shares picked up or delivered in Courtenay, Comox, Campbell River, and Cumberland: $450
Weekly share contents
Our goal is to offer 6-8 different veggies each week, totalling an average value of $25. In general we try to include a bag of salad greens, a bunch of cooking greens, a bunch of root veggies, a bunch of herbs and round it out with a diversity of other seasonal veggies. We will occasionally bring in produce from other local organic growers this year to increase weekly variety.
Value or variety lost in one week (due to crop failures or weather or pest issues) will be made up in future weeks.
Once you’ve read through the terms and click our sign up link below, you will be asked to fill out a CSA sign-up form and will be able to pay via e-transfer, cash or cheque.
Share pick-up locations
Shares are picked up once a week by members at their chosen pick-up location. Pick-up days are Tuesday, Friday or Sunday depending on the location. Currently we have confirmed the following locations for share pick-up:
- Central Courtenay (Wachiay Friendship Centre, 1625 McPhee Ave) Tuesdays
- Comox (Private Home, location TBA) Tuesdays
- Amara Farm, 2641 Kirby Rd, Courtenay Fridays
- Campbell River, (Fisherman’s Wharf Parking Lot) Wednesdays
- Cumberland (Private Home) Sundays
Picking Up Your Order
If you miss your pick up due to unforeseen circumstances and are picking up at either Wachiay, Amara Farm or Campbell River, don’t worry, we’ll hold onto it for you at Amara Farm (2641 Kirby Rd, Courtenay) for two days after your missed pick-up. Please come by the farm between 8 am – 8 pm to pick it up. Shares are kept in the walk-in cooler at the brown house – If you can bring your own box and leave us the blue tote, that’s a big help!
Unfortunately we do not have a cooler set up at Cumberland or Comox pick up locations, so if you don’t make it your box will be donated after 24 hours. If you know you won’t make it please let us know in advance and we can make other arrangements. Please do not come to the farm to pick up a missed share unless you have made arrangements with us to do so.
We ask that CSA members commit to reading email messages from us. It’s important that we have an efficient way of getting in touch if there are any changes to your pick-up location or time. It’s also important to us that you know a bit about what’s happening at our farms every week. It’s good to stay connected!
If you are going on vacation and if you are NOT asking a friend or neighbour to pick up your share, please drop us a line to let us know when you will be away at firstname.lastname@example.org. We can provide you a market credit for a missed week as long as we are informed at least one week in advance.
All shares include a non-refundable deposit of $50. If you are unhappy with the CSA program and wish for a refund, we will reimburse you for the remaining weeks of shares minus the non-refundable deposit.
